Michael Chandler wil overstappen naar de UFC of ONE Championship

Michael Chandler heeft nog één gevecht staan op zijn contract bij Bellator MMA. De voormalige lightweight kampioen wil geen contractverlenging en gaat kijken naar opties als ONE: Championship en de Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Chandler is één van de gezichten van Bellator MMA en is hier als sinds 2010 actief.

De Amerikaanse Chandler maakte na een partij bij First Blood en Strikeforce zijn debuut bij Bellator MMA. Sinds dien heeft hij een indrukwekkend professioneel record behaald van 20 om 5. Chandler is razend populair en komt in bijna iedere promotie video voorbij. Echter is hij toe aan verfrissing en verwacht hij dit jaar een nieuwe thuis.

Chandler sprak met ESPN over zijn toekomstplannen: “We have had some talks, but it looks like I’m going to be a free agent after this fight. I would love nothing more than to finish my career and retire as a Bellator fighter, and I’ve told that to Scott Coker, but the simple fact is they have a business to run with checks and balances, and I know my wife and son deserve to be taken care of, and I have a calling in life that might require me to go elsewhere,” Chandler said.

“I think I’m a guy who could go to One Championship and finish my trilogy with Eddie Alvarez or imagine me fighting guys like Justin Gaethje or Dustin Poirier and putting on Fights of the Year. And I do think I’m the best guy to solve the puzzle of Khabib Nurmagomedov.”

Nu het coronavirus een pauze zet op de competitie, is het nog onbekend wanneer hij zijn laatste Bellator MMA partij vecht. Later meer!
