Meningen verdeeld over uitslag Jones vs. Reyes

Afgelopen zaterdag 8 februari was het publiek getuigen van een schitterend gevecht tijdens het main event van UFC 247. Hier vochten Jon Jones en Dominick Reyes voor de volle 25-minuten tegen elkaar met een jurybeslissing als gevolg. Na het klinken van de cijfers 48–47, 48–47 en 49–46 ging de hand van Jones omhoog als winnaar. Echter was niet iedereen het eens met deze beslissing.

Nog voordat de berichten waren getypt op Instagram, twitter of andere social media pagina’s liet het publiek al duidelijk hun mening horen. Zo klonken geluiden als “Jee” en “Boe” door de Toyota Center van Texas.

Dit vonden vechters van het besluit:

Not robbery. Close fight, could have gone either way. 3-1 or 2-2 going into 5th. I thought 3-2 Reyes but the fight was so close it could have gone either way.

I had Reyes in the first three rounds. Credit to Jones on coming on strong 4th and 5th but I would of guessed Reyes won that fight on scorecards.

Ook Joe Rogan sprak over de beslissing: ““I can’t argue about this enough. I can’t get angry enough. I’ve done it so many times now. For anyone to think that was 4-1 for Jon Jones, that person is insane! They’re insane! Dominick Reyes put on a hell of a fight tonight, and to disrespect that performance with that kind of judging is insane.”

Jon Jones verlengde zijn overwinningsreeks naar zeventien. Al lange tijd gaan er geruchten dat hij een partij binnen de heavyweight divisie wil vechten, maar mogelijk al zijn eerstvolgende uitdaging een rematch zijn.
