Voor de aanvang van de officiële weging van het evenement Legacy Fighting Alliance 6 heeft de ‘Strawweight’ atleet Mackenzie Dern laten weten het afgesproken gewicht niet te halen. Het gevecht tegen Katherine Roy wordt nu gevochten op een gewicht van 120lbs in plaats van 115lbs. Dern zal 20% van haar loon overhandigen aan Roy.
Dit is de tweede keer dat de Braziliaanse Jiu-Jitsu kampioene moeite heeft met het komen op het juiste gewicht. Tijdens de officiële weging van Legacy 61 in Dallas, Texas, was Dern met 118.75lbs te zwaar. Tegenstander Kathaerine Roy reageerde via social media:
“Making a catch weight later on your second attempt is missing weight. Don’t deny it. Fight was supposed to be 115 not 120. Not my fault other people lack discipline. Also don’t come out saying you started heavy. I started at 153lbs back in Jan when the fight was signed. Can’t be a 115 champ when you don’t make 115 ever!”
Dern (2-0) is een 23-jarige Braziliaanse Jiu-Jitsu kampioen die recent haar MMA debuut maakte bij Legacy Fighting Championship. Met negen wereldklasse medailles om haar nek wordt ze door de MMA community gezien als The Next Top Contender. Ze stapt op 10 maart weer op het canvas om haar derde professionele partij te vechten tegen Katherine Roy tijdens Legacy Fighting Alliance 6 in de Cowboys Dancehall van San Antonio, Texas.
