Frankrijk legaliseert MMA vechten vanaf 1 januari 2020

Na 1 januari 2020 is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) een officiële sport in Frankrijk. Tot nu toe is het niet toegestaan om te wedstrijdvechten in het land van de stokbrood, wijn en kaas. Nu dit gaat veranderen is de Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) zeer geïnteresseerd om langs te komen.

De minister van sport, Roxana Maracineanu maakte het nieuws bekend via social media: “As of January 1, 2020, MMA will officially exist as a professional and amateur sports practice in France within the framework of defined by, in harmony with the international landscape of this discipline”

De UFC heeft al gereageerd op het nieuws: “UFC welcomes today’s announcement by the Ministry of Sports, which is the first step in officially recognizing MMA and integrating the sport into the French sports ecosystem. We will closely follow the progress of the consultation period and pay particular attention to the respect of the integrity of MMA and preservation of its rules by the host federation. We put our global MMA expertise at the disposal of the authorities to make this process a collective construction.”

De UFC keert op 28 september 2019 terug naar Europa. Ze komen op bezoek in Kopenhagen en organiseren hier UFC on ESPN+ 18. Verder staat er nog geen Europees evenement in de agenda geschreven. Later meer!
