Dana White en Leonard Ellerbe over Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor

Afgelopen nacht is de officiële aankondiging gemaakt van misschien wel het grootste boksgevecht ooit, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor. De afgelopen maanden zijn er veel verschillende locaties en datums genoemd voor een mogelijk gevent. Uiteindelijk vind het spektakel plaats op op 26 augustus in de T-Mobile Arena van Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dana White & Leonard Ellerbe kwamen direct na de aankondiging bijeen voor een media scrum:

“I always say this about Conor, and now you can say it about Floyd, too. When you go out and you put everything on line – I’ve said this about Floyd Mayweather for years. He loves money, loves money, but that record is actually I think more important to him than money. For him to go out and risk that 49-0 against a guy like Conor, props to both guys for making the fight.”

Voor de 28-jarige Conor McGregor zal dit zijn eerste bokspartij worden. Wel kent hij een professioneel MMA record van 21 om 3. Sinds het winnen van de UFC Lightweight titel focust hij zich alleen nog maar op zijn bokstechnieken.

“If you look at this thing and you look at how big this fight is and you look at how big these athletes are that are involved in this fight, if Conor does knock Floyd Mayweather out, he is the biggest athlete on earth. He’s the biggest athlete on this planet, on other planets – he’s the biggest athlete. It’s pretty crazy.”
