Conor McGregor vs. Georges St-Pierre? GSP zijn coach wil een ‘epische’ terugkeer

Hoe kan de UFC de terugkeer van Georges St-Pierre nog groter maken dan dat het al is? Door hem te laten vechten tegen Conor McGregor.

St-Pierre, die niet meer heeft gevochten sinds het Welterweight kampioenschap tegen Johny Hendricks tijdens UFC 167, tekende onlangs een nieuwe contract bij de UFC. Sinds de bekendmaking van dit nieuws staan er veel potentiële tegenstanders in de rij. St-Pierre zijn coach Firas Zahabi, geloofd dat GSP een gevecht krijgt tegen de Lightweight kampioen Conor McGregor, of de Middleweight kampioen Michael Bisping.

“My ideal scenario, I don’t know if it’s still up for grabs, but I was really happy when there was a buzzing of Bisping or McGregor. I thought those two would be two epic fights. One, he would go a little lower in weight; one, he would go a little higher. But those are really, really intriguing fights”

Conor McGregor is momenteel een van de meest herkenbare MMA vechters ter wereld. Een terugkeer gevecht tegen hem zou enorm zijn, vooral in de termen van het geld. The Notorious lijkt momenteel meer zin te hebben in een bokswedstrijd met Floyd Mayweather Jr. Maar het is goed mogelijk dat hij zijn plannen voor een hoeveelheid dollars zou bijdraaien.

“So I think the welterweight title is not really something St-Pierre is thinking about right now because of the current landscape of the welterweight division, but there is always the 185-pound belt. And of course, McGregor is such a megastar that if you put those two on a main event, I don’t think that anybody in the world wouldn’t watch that. I think that even non-MMA fans would watch that. But again, I don’t do the matchups, I don’t do the managing, I’m just talking as a trainer”
