Brian Stann gaat regels waarborgen voor Professional Fighters League

De oud World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) kampioen en Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) vechter Brian Stann heeft een nieuwe baan bij de Professional Fighters League (PFL), voorheen World Series of Fighting (WSOF). Na zijn vechtsportcarrière en rol als commentator en analist maakt hij zich klaar voor een nieuwe stap.

De organisatie van PFL maakte het nieuws bekend via de volgende woorden: “Stann will play a major leadership role on the Fighter and Competition/Rules Committee in its efforts to support fighters by developing procedures and making recommendations with respect to competition format and rules, fighter care, and athlete conduct.”

Ook Brian Stann verteld over zijn nieuwe baan: “I am excited to be a part of the PFL in its vision to bring a new format and a new platform to professional MMA,” he stated. “I know first-hand the dedication, discipline and professionalism it takes to be an MMA athlete, and I am happy to contribute to their ability to compete at the highest level.”

De 37-jarige Amerikaanse Brian Stann is vooral bekend van zijn schitterende partij tegen Wanderlei Silva tijdens UFC on Fuel TV: Silva vs. Stann. Hier wist hij de fans in Saitama, Japan te trakteren op een spectaculair gevecht dat later bekroond is met de Fight of the Night bonus. Ook kent Stann mooie partijen tegen onder andere Chael Sonnen, Chris Leben, Doug Marshall en Mike Massenzio. Naast zijn carrière in de vechtsportwereld was Stann ook actief als militair.

Ook de CEO van PFL, Peter Murray laat van zich horen: “I couldn’t be more excited that Brian has brought his expertise and passion for MMA to the PFL. Brian will be instrumental in helping the PFL build the Fighter and Competition/Rules Committee and fulfill our vision of being a ‘fighter first’ league. His resume is as impressive as his character and he will play an important role in maintaining the standards of professionalism that the PFL brings to the sport.”

De PFL verwacht op 7 juni zijn debuut te maken in het Hulu Theater van de Madison Square Garden in New York City. De kaart wordt afgesloten door de Welterweight vechter Jake Shields en Ray Cooper. Dit is de derde keer dat beide mannen elkaars pad kruizen. De eerste partij is gewonnen door Cooper, en de tweede door Shields. Het staat dus 1-1.
