De Aziatische ONE Championship zal in 2020 voor de eerste keer afreizen naar de Verenigde Staten. Met ruim honderd evenementen in landen als Thailand, China, Japan, Indonesië, Singapore en de Filipijnen werkt de promotie aan expansie.

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong sprak met CBS Sports over de toekomstplannen: “We definitely want to make a big splash in the U.S. and we believe that we have the right product, the right brand and the right values with the right heroes and stories”

De promotie heeft New York City in het vizier voor een debuutshow.

“I think Eddie, ‘D.J.’ and Sage all came over for the right reasons. They came over because they wanted to join a global promotion that treats athletes with love and respect, a global promotion that treats athletes as athletes, a global promotion that pays top dollar and a global promotion that has the biggest viewership base per event. With all those things put together, why wouldn’t you want to join the biggest stage in global martial arts and get paid top dollar for a promotion who only speaks well of you and doesn’t trashtalk you and is there to do good things in the world?”

ONE Championship zet al zijn wapens in en komt in 2020 met tachtig verschillende evenementen. De evenementen moeten wereldwijd plaatsvinden.

Het eerstvolgende evenement staat in de agenda geschreven op 12 juli in de Axiata Arena van Kuala Lumpur.

ONE Championship kent ook Nederlandse vechters. Zo zijn namen als Reinier de Ridder, Pieter Buist, Anthony Engelen, Regian Eersel, Nieky Holzken, Andy Souwer, Jorina Baars actief bij de organisatie.
